BTS Reports Regionals Consumer Stats
Regionals seemed to play a lesser role in consumer problems in the latest statistics released by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. American (AMR) was one of three carriers – including American Eagle and USAirways (LCC) – to post the lowest on time arrival rates. No regional made the of highest on-time arrival rates with Hawaiian (HA) and Aloha holding their traditional positions in that category.
Comair made the list of most frequently delayed flights with its flight 5521 from Boston to New York JFK – late 92.31 percent of the time. American and American Eagle posted the highest rate of canceled flights at 2.2 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively.
American Eagle also took the industry’s worst rating for mishandled baggage, displacing Atlantic Southeast Airline, with a rate of 11.6 mishandled bags for 1,000 passengers. Finally, ExpressJet (XJT) had the dubious honor of having the only stranded flight for the month. Its Continental Express flight from Savannah to Newark sat on the taxiway for over six hours.
