Bombardier

Northwest Airlines [NWAC] has ordered 10 Bombardier [BBD] CRJ 200s, which will be operated by Pinnacle Airlines [PNCL]. The latest order is an expansion of 175 CRJ 200s that Northwest has placed with Pinnacle. Northwest has options on 165 additional CRJs. In a second order, Styrian Spirit, a European regional carrier based in Graz, Austria, has added its first 70-seat RJ to its fleet of three CRJ 200s with the purchase of a CRJ 700. The order has been valued at $30.2 million, Styrian has an option for a second CRJ 700.

ATR

ATR last month delivered its 11th ATR 72-500 to Air New Zealand. The 66-seat plane is the 300th ATR 72 that has been built. Mount Cook Airlines, a regional subsidiary of Air New Zealand, will operate the new plane, which will replace a Saab 340A.

Viva International

Viva International [VIVI] has leased a Saab 340A as the first installment of 10 planes that will be the cornerstone of its Caribbean passenger and freight operations. The plane is jointly owned by Bank of America and Ford Motor Credit. The lease will be administered by State Street Bank and Trust. Viva plans to obtain five additional Saab 340s from the same partnership.

BAe Regional Aircraft

Club Air, an Italian regional carrier, has leased another BAe 146-200 from BAe Regional Aircraft for its rapidly growing fleet. The carrier is already flying five BAe 146s. The latest plane is to be delivered this month.

Ilyushin Finance

Ilyushin Finance, Russia's largest aircraft lessor, has placed an order for 12 An-148 regional jets to be delivered in 2005 and 2006. Ilyushin will lease the Russian RJ to Kras Air. The National Reserve Bank of Russia, which established Ilyushin in 1999, will soon be the controlling shareholder in the Voronezh factory, which will build the An-148s along with other aircraft.

K&F Industries

Los Angeles-based Aurora Capital Group recently concluded its $1.8 billion purchase of K&F Industries, a major manufacturer of aircraft wheels, brakes and fuel tanks. Aurora is an investment company that specializes in investing and growing middle market companies.

Serco North America

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded a five-year, $100 million contract to Serco North America to operate 54 air traffic control towers in the U.S. western states. The new contract continues an ongoing relationship with the FAA.

GCR & Associates

The FAA awarded a grant to GCR & Associates to collect data on 5,000 airports.

Flight Safety Technologies

The recently enacted federal spending bill authorized NASA to fund a $5 million contract with Flight Safety Technologies [FLT] to continue researching the Socrates program. A new contract still must be negotiated. The fund will enable Flight Safety Technologies to complete the expansion of the Socrates wake vortex sensor to a 32-beam configuration and provide an airport test for detecting and tracking aircraft wake vortices.

Telephonics

Telephonics, a unit of Griffon Corp.. [GFF], recently won several new contracts collectively valued at $4.1 million to install a maritime surveillance radar system on small aircraft. Ecolift Corp. in conjunction with the Police Department of Puerto Rico will install Telephonics' APS-143 on a Reims F406. The police already use the APS-143 on a Beech 200 maritime patrol plane. Stork Aerospace will be installing the APS-143 on a Fokker 60 for the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The Namibia Fishery Department has selected Telephonics' RDR 1500 to be installed on a Reims F406.
