BAe Systems
Asian Spirit, a Philippine carrier, has leased two planes from BAe Systems Regional Aircraft. A BAe 146 is to be delivered this month. This is the fifth BAe 146 that the carrier has leased this year. In addition, the carrier has decided to extend its lease on an ATP. As part of its deal for the first BAe 146s, Asian Spirit had the right to return the ATP with the deliveries of the RJs; however, it has decided to keep the turboprop.
Skyways Aviation
Calm Air, a Canadian regional carrier, has purchased two Saab 340Bs in deals brokered by Skyways Aviation. Both planes will be refurbished at the Embraer Aircraft Maintenance facility in Nashville. Once the planes are delivered, Calm Air will have a fleet of seven Saab 340Bs. In the deal, Skyways represented Mandarin Airlines and MCC Aviation Services.
In a separate deal, Skyways sold a Saab 340B to AeroCentury [ACY]. While the plane had been owned by Svenska Volkswagen, it had been leased to MacAir Airlines, an Australian carrier. California-based AeroCentury turned around and extended MacAir's lease for another 45 months.
Cabot Aviation
Phoenix Aircraft Leasing, a Singapore-based leasing company, recently purchased a Fokker 100 from bmi. Prior to turning over the plane - its last Fokker 100 - bmi performed a 12-year inspection on the aircraft and refurbished its in interior. Cabot Aviation represented bmi in the transaction.
Embraer
Embraer [ERJ] has opened a second maintenance and overhaul facility in Brazil. Both the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency have certified the new center in Gaviao Peixoto.
SkyWest
SkyWest Airlines [SKYW] has chosen Aeroism Technologies' flight management systems trainer and the virtual flight deck for its CRJ pilot training program. The flight management system has been installed in the carrier's Salt Lake City training center's computer lab. The program also allows for distance learning so that pilots can brush-up on training needs remotely.
General Electric
CIT Group [CIT] has sold a portfolio of 360 aircraft, which includes turboprops, business jets and helicopters, to GE Commercial Finance [GE]. While the portfolio has been valued in excess of $900 million, neither side would disclose the details of the deal, which closed on June 30. The assets will be transferred during the third quarter. CIT still has about $500 million in aircraft assets, which will be transferred to CIT Aerospace. The company will continue to finance fractional aircraft shares and some corporate aircraft deals.
Cavok Group
Texas-based Cavok Group recently announced that it is buying Wyndemere, an aerospace consulting firm that specializes in flight operations quality assurance programs. The sale should be completed in six months and the deal includes Wyndemere's clients.
AJ Walter Aviation
AJ Walter Aviation, a European aircraft component specialist, has joined Aeroxchange, which allows it to market its spare parts to 33 world airlines in a digital marketplace.
