Embraer
China Eastern Airlines Wuhan approved the purchase of five 50-seat ERJ 145LRs from Harbin Embraer, a joint venture of Brazil's Embraer [ERJ] and China Aviation Industry Corp. II. The planes are to be delivered between November and June 2007. The order is in addition to five previously acquired by an affiliated regional airline, China Eastern Airlines Jiangsu.
Embraer's board voted last week to switch Brazilian stock exchanges. The stock will be listed on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange's New Market, which has stricter corporate governance standards. To make the move, Embraer must consolidate its various classes of stockholders into one voting class. The change will impact the company's three largest shareholders - the state-run pension fund Previ, the telecommunications pension fund Sistel, and the company Companhia Bozano - who together control about 60 percent of Embraer's voting shares. In addition, Embraer announced that CEO Mauricio Botelho will retire in April of 2007, but will remain as chairman until 2008.
