Embraer

As a result of a decision by the U.S. Army last week to cancel an $8 billion spy plane program, Embraer [ERJ] announced that its plans to build an assembly plant in Jacksonville, Fla., are on hold. As part of a team led by Lockheed Martin [LMT], Embraer was to provide its ERJ 145 as a platform for a new battlefield surveillance system. However, as more components were added to the plane, it became apparent that a larger airplane would be needed. The Army will seek new bids in 2009 to design the replacement for the EP-3E aircraft.

Corporate Jet Services, the new owner of AvCraft Aerospace GmbH in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, has established 328 Support Services as the operator of the former Dornier 328 plant. The new owner has retained Wolfgang Walter as managing director to supervise the 100 employees at the facility. Walter has been with the 328 program through its two previous owners. While Walter will oversee the production of the last two 382Jets, he will fashion a maintenance organization for all 328 aircraft at the facility.
