AE Adds NY-Cedar Rapids
American Eagle adds a daily nonstop flight between New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and The Eastern Iowa Regional Airport in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (CID), beginning July 2. American Eagle will operate the service with 37-seat Embraer ERJ-135 jets. American Eagle is also adding a flight from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Cedar Rapids, beginning June 1 for a total of six round trips. American Eagle also serves Cedar Rapids from Chicago with seven daily round trips and AmericanConnection has three daily round trips to St. Louis.

Mesa Takes Delivery of Sixth CRJ
The sixth of 14 76-seat Bombardier CRJ -900s NextGen was delivered to Mesa Air Group for operation in its Freedom Airlines Delta Connection program, a little more than a year after Mesa won the new flying.
"Mesa Air Group remains the only regional carrier to operate this type of aircraft for two major airline partners,” said Freedom Airlines Chief Operating Officer Joe Serratelli.
The aircraft operate at New York, JFK and Dallas, Fort Worth are configured with 12 First Class and 64 Coach Class seats. The deliveries come shortly after Freedom’s 50-seat Embraer ERJ 145 flying was cancelled by Delta but CEO Jonathan Ornstein indicated that operation of the new aircraft “underscores the positive relationship we wish to have with Delta."

Jazz Goes Toronto-Richmond
Air Canada Jazz inaugurated two new trans-border services from Toronto: the only twice daily, new, year-round, non-stop service between Toronto and Richmond, Virginia, and the only daily, non-stop Toronto-Austin, Texas. The Richmond flights use the 37-seat Bombardier Q200 while the Austin flights use the airline’s 75-seat, two class Bombardier CRJ 705s.
"With the introduction of these two new non-stop routes serving the United States, Air Canada continues to expand the most extensive trans-border route network of any airline," said Daniel Shurz, vice president, network planning. "These new services to and from our main Toronto hub offer convenient access, not just to flights across Canada, but also to and from Europe using brand new connection facilities, all under one roof."

Cessna Caravan Does Not Require Part 139 Airport
In response to a question concerning the applicability of CFR Part 139 at airports served by the Cessna 208 Caravan, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said an airport served by this aircraft in passenger carrying operations would not need to be certificated under Part 139 because the aircraft designed for nine passengers or less, excluding pilot seats.
The question arose, said the FAA, because the Cessna 208B Caravan is certificated as a single pilot aircraft, and in non-revenue service, the second pilot seat may be occupied by a passenger, making it a 10-passenger aircraft. However, when used in scheduled passenger-carrying operations, 14 CFR section 135.113 prohibits passengers from occupying the second pilot seat when an aircraft is configured with eight or more passenger seats (excluding the 2 pilot seats).
While scheduled operations with 10-or-more passengers requires Part 139 airports, as long as the aircraft is operated with only nine passenger seats, it does not apply.
