In a move that would add 700 employees, Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation is expanding its agreement with United Airlines, which adds ramp services to the over-wing (passenger) services Air Wisconsin currently performs at United's Washington Dulles (IAD) hub, and also increases from 23 to 27 the number of cities throughout the United States in which Air Wisconsin provides complete ground handling services for United Express flights.
Effective April 1, in a continuation of its long-standing ground handling relationship with United, Air Wisconsin began providing baggage loading, aircraft servicing and aircraft de-icing in addition to their existing ticket counter, check-in, gate and station operations services for over 200 daily United Express flights at Dulles. Air Wisconsin will also provide complete United Express ground handling services at Myrtle Beach, SC (MYR), Birmingham, AL (BHM), Norfolk, VA (ORF) and Saginaw, MI (MBS).
"We are very pleased to announce this agreement with United Airlines which retains our current business and secures substantial growth of our ground handling operations," said Air Wisconsin president and CEO James Rankin. "We appreciate the strong relationship Air Wisconsin has shared with United Airlines for over two decades, and we recognize the significant contribution our partnership with them has made to our overall success."
Air Wisconsin vice president customer service Vince Portaro added the new collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) District Lodge 143, helped secure the new agreement with United.
The company operates as the largest privately held regional airline in the United States, performing ground handling services for United Express and Northwest Airlines at over 30 locations throughout the U.S. Additionally, Air Wisconsin operates its fleet of 70 Canadair Regional Jets as US Airways Express, with nearly 500 departures per day to 69 cities in 26 states and two Canadian provinces.
