Twenty five American Eagle Bombardier CRJ-700s jets were grounded for nearly four hours Friday as part of the FAA’s recently announced audit ensuring airlines are complying with airworthiness directives following problems at Southwest. Related Story The FAA reviewed inspection paperwork forcing the carrier to cancel 13 flights at Dallas/Fort Worth and another two at O’Hare. FAA was looking into the CRJ’s rudders and hydraulic systems, the subject of a recent airworthiness directive. The move was followed by the grounding of American’s mainline aircraft pending inspections of MD-80 wire bundles, forcing the carrier to cancel more than 300 flights, as part of the same FAA audit. Delta is also grounding aircraft to inspect the wiring, cancelling an unknown number of flights.
