Supply Side
- BAE Systems Aircraft Trading and Management Services will now provide remarketing and lease management for eight Bombardier CRJ-200s owned by Wells Fargo Bank Northwest, adding them to its current regional jet portfolio, which also includes the Avro regional jets. The eight aircraft - built between 1999 and 2000 - are currently on lease to Mesa Airlines but are now available for sale or lease. The company manages over 75 aircraft, mostly Boeing and Airbus, on behalf of third party owners/lessors.
- Eurocontrol recently launched a series of new air-ground safety initiatives aimed at resolving hazardous situations resulting from communications issues. These include runway incursions, call-sign confusion, undetected simultaneous transmission, radio interference, use of standard phraseology and prolonged loss of communications. Implementation will occur over the next 18 months and include flight crew proficiency checks covering communications safety issues. Other initiatives include increasing the reliability of the frequency changes process by operators and air navigation service providers, adherence to ICAO phraseology, and procedures and best practices for flight crews and controllers. The initiatives result from efforts by stakeholders including the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), the European Cockpit Association (ECA), Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), the International Federation of Air Traffic Controller's Association (IFATCA), and the European Regional Airlines Association (ERA).
- Cirrus Industries recently purchased a minority stake in SATSair, a provider of air taxi services, and has become a strategic partner in the company. SATSair has changed its name and logo to reflect the transition from SATSair, operated by Rhino Aviation, to SATSair, LLC. SATSair's headquarters will remain in Greenville, S.C., and the executive and management teams will not change. In addition, the strategic partnership of SATSair and Cirrus Industries will not affect jobs or employee benefits.
- ADT Security Services' Federal Systems Division introduced its new Aviation PASS systems, a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based security solution for general aviation airports. The system, already in service in Florida and Colorado, works by placing an RFID tag in an aircraft that communicates with another tag held by those authorized to move the plane. If unauthorized individuals attempt to move the aircraft, the system will alert either or both local airport officials and an ADT alarm-monitoring center.
- Rolls-Royce introduced two new services for the regional aviation market - Powerplant Engineering Services (PES) and On-Wing Care for support of the AE3007 engine powering the Embraer ERJ family of aircraft. The new services complement the company's TotalCare program which provides predictable engine maintenance costs, transfers engine risk to Rolls-Royce, reduces operator acquisition and follows the trend of regional airlines outsourcing maintenance. PES provides a dedicated engineer, integrated into the carrier's operation, to enhance engineering service team assistance. American Eagle was one of its first customers in a 20-month pilot program. On-Wing Care provides rapid response and resolution for engines exhibiting conditions that could result in unscheduled maintenance and is designed to bridge the gap between flight-line maintenance and overhaul shop visits.
- Airclaims introduced AIR, a new advanced online business planning tool, offering a full range of aviation industry information, including current and historical fleet data by aircraft type and operation; airline and aircraft productivity data; orders and deliveries; aircraft price ranges; and finance and traffic statistics. Information is updated daily.
- AllSafe Travels launched its new web-based travel advisory alert service - http://www.allsafetravels.com - offering cautionary information to travelers about the countries they plan to visit. The information incorporates health, political and extreme weather situations and centralizes over 1,000 advisories from governmental, non-governmental organizations, commercial and other sources. The site is updated daily and captures any changes to the information, not just the fact a change has occurred. The advisories can be accessed by country, region or keyword, or travelers can register their travel plans and review advisories that apply. For a fee, users can access TripAlert, an email update of pertinent, fast-breaking news about the destination. The service was developed in response to increasing risks to travelers from health and political situations, such as civil unrest, SARs and Avian flu, weather and even local transportation disruptions.
