Quick Takes

Embraer/Gol Accident, Jazz Toronto Incident, CAE/Phenom Training
Brazilian Authorities Condemned
After Brazilian authorities recommended the criminal prosecutions of ExcelAire pilots Joseph Lepore and Jan Paladino, the National Business Aircraft Association, Flight Safety Foundation and the International Federation of Air Line Pilot’s Associations condemned the action which stemmed from last September’s midair between the pilots’ Embraer (ERJ) Legacy and a Gol Airlines 737. The organizations criticized the “staggering oversight” of Brazil’s Federal Police for excluding the military from its investigation despite the police admission that air traffic controller performance contributed to the event which killed all 154 aboard the 737. The organizations await charges against the controllers by the country’s military.

Jazz Incident at Toronto
The main landing gear of a Air Canada Jazz Bombardier (BBD) CRJ100 collapsed while taxiing as Flight AC8911 arrived at Toronto from Moncton with 37 passengers and three crew aboard. There were no injuries. The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

CAE, Embraer Sign Phenom Training Pact
The Phenom’s European training center will be at CAE’s training center at Burgess Hill nearly London’s Gatwick Airport and will be ready for launch when the first Phenom 100 is delivered to Europe in 2009. The Burgess Hill training center is CAE's European home for business aviation training. In October 2006, Embraer and CAE announced an agreement to form a global training joint venture to provide entitlement training and post-entitlement training for pilots and ground crew personnel of the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 aircraft. The initial training program will be offered at CAE SimuFlite in Dallas, Texas, at the same time as the Phenom 100 goes into service in 2008.
