Eclipse
Iridium mobile satellite communications system will be standard on the Eclipse 500. The Iridium Satellite 9522 L-Band transceiver will be the digital datalink system providing automatic out-of-gate, off-airport, on-airport times and engine trending information. It will record operational times, similar to the commercial airlines' Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) to track flights from departure to arrival. It also affords real-time diagnostics data sent to the Eclipse flight operations center enabling the aircraft's fault code to be prioritized even in flight.
It also teamed with Strategic Aeronautics to provide the AvioTM Flight Bag (AFB), a suite of software applications that extend Eclipse's Avio Total Aircraft Integration beyond the aircraft. The AFB allows users to expedite all flight operations. Future integration of the AFB with the AVio system will provide customers with a paperless cockpit. It will be optional but will include an Eclipse 500 performance calculator, weight & balance calculator, integration with the company's JetComplete Flight Support, digital chart viewer and terminal procedures viewer, airport facility director, selected operational and training reference materials, document library, Aeronautical Information Manual and selected federal aviation regulations. Future upgrades will provide geo-referenced enroute and approach charts and full connectivity with on-board Avio systems. The hardware/software is priced at $4,295.
Flight Safety International
Flight Safety is offering the Aviation Department Tool Kit, providing a source of information to facilitate the development of flight operations manuals, safety management systems, emergency response procedures and other documents and management systems needed for safe flight operations. The Tool Kit was developed by the FSF Aviation Safety Audits Team in an effort to help operators improve safety and prepare for safety audits. FSF also offers a library of publications designed for flight operations managements, covering crew duty and rest guidelines, altitude awareness recommendations, flight attendant seating and safety procedures, and maintenance practices among other documents.
