Embraer’s firm order backlog for the Commercial Aviation, Executive Aviation, and Defense and Government segments increased by $1.5 billion during the first quarter of 2008 (1Q08), totaling a record $20.3 billion. During 1Q08 Embraer delivered 45 aircraft in total, where 38 jets were delivered to the Airline Market and seven jets to the Executive Aviation segment.
After delivering a record number of aircraft in 2007, Embraer continues to implement improvements on its industrial processes. The production rate has been maintained at the 14-E-jets-per-month level putting 2008 deliveries between 195 and 200 jets, plus 10 to 15 Phenom 100 executive jets, in 2008.
During the first quarter of 2008, Embraer signed a contract for the sale of 36 ERJ 195 jets with the newest Brazilian airline, commanded by the businessman David Neeleman. The sales team also recorded the conclusion of sales to new customers as Air Moldova, from Moldavia, aircraft leasing company Jetscape, Inc., based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and also recorded the confirmation of purchase rights with Regional, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air France, EgyptAir Holding Company, Finnair, and M1 Travel Ltd., from Lebanon. The Phenom family continues to record solid results with more than 750 firm contracts signed. The certification program is running on schedule and the Company has four pre-serial aircraft working on the flight test phase and certification.
Also during 1Q08, Embraer converted three options into three firm orders with JetBlue, totaling 104 aircraft on its contract, and US Airways converted in options ten firm orders that were subject to confirmation from the company into options, according to the release issued in February 2006.
