Ramon Lopez Joins Aurora Flight Sciences as Manager of Communications

MANASSAS, Va., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Aurora Flight Sciences, a leader in the design and production of specialized unmanned aircraft, announced today that Ramon Lopez has become the company's communications manager.

Lopez, who came aboard after a distinguished 35-year career in journalism, is responsible for the company's day-to-day communications activities, including web site content, press announcements, media relations, company imagery and trade show marketing. In addition, he will assist in the development and implementation of the company's overall strategic communications plan.

"Ramon brings to Aurora a wealth of journalistic experience and in-depth knowledge of the unmanned systems industry," said Aurora Flight Sciences Vice President for Business Operations Kristine Miller. "We expect to tap into that knowledge pool as we continue our expansion from a small, highly specialized producer of aerostructures and niche-market unmanned aerial systems (UAS) into a leading producer of tactical UAS with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities."

"After more than three decades as a reporter and editor, I look forward to seeing the aerospace industry from a different perspective," said Lopez. "Aurora Flight Sciences has an interesting and important story to tell, and I am ready to bear that message to my former colleagues and the general public."

After a brief stint in broadcast news gathering, Lopez specialized in aerospace and defense as a journalist, editor and manager for daily, weekly, monthly and bimonthly publications.

Prior to joining Aurora Flight Sciences, he served as editor of Unmanned Systems, the magazine published by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.

He has written for well-known general interest and trade magazines, including Popular Science, Professional Pilot, Defense Technology International, Seapower, Air Force Magazine, Flight International, Jane's Defence Weekly and International Defense Review.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland and served for six years in the Air National Guard.
