Crystal Cabin Award 2009 Hamburg: Boeing, Lufthansa-Technik, B/E Aerospace and Recaro are Winners

HAMBURG, Germany, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The competition at this year's Crystal Cabin Award for aircraft cabin interiors innovations had strong entries in six different categories from 51 renowned companies. Winners are: Boeing, Lufthansa-Technik, B/E Aerospace and Recaro

This truly unique prize was initiated two years ago by the "Joint-Initiative Hamburg - The place for aviation". As the world's only award to recognize outstanding and innovative aircraft cabin products and -concepts it is intended as a contribution to the improvement of travel comfort, the development of new, economically and ecologically sound solutions, and the strengthening of Hamburg's position as the world's leading aircraft cabin competence centre.

One of the trophies went to the winner of the Passenger Comfort category, German company Recaro. Their CL3620 seating generation offers passengers unprecedented legroom and seating comfort. In the Industrial Design / Interior Concept category, the judging panel chose again Recaro seat, which is the only Economy Class seat that weighs less than 10kg. In the Greener Cabin, Health and Safety category the experts were most impressed by Boeing's Recyclable Aircraft Carpet.

The Material and Components category went to B/E Aerospace for their series of innovative designs for vacuum toilet assemblies, generators and waste tanks. The winner in the Entertainment and Communication category is the Hamburg-based Lufthansa Technik AG with their niceview(TM) infotainment system, which offers much more than other in-flight information systems. The winner of the Judges' Commendation Prize is the designer James Lee with his "Paperclip" Armrest Concept, a transversely offset, double-level armrest, allows two adjacent passengers to rest their arms simultaneously.

The Award is part of the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg - among Seattle and Toulouse the world's leading location for the civil aviation industry. This world's biggest aircraft interiors exhibition is the showcase for the products and technologies of tomorrow. Among the sights on show are ultra-modern seating concepts and cabin designs, new kinds of in-flight entertainment systems, and lightweight materials that allow airlines to save fuel.
