An Elbit Systems of America Company, EFW, Selected by Bell Helicopter to Supply Data Transfer System for U.S. Army's New Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter

FORT WORTH, Texas, July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- EFW Inc. (EFW), an Elbit Systems of America company, has been chosen by Bell Helicopter to supply the Data Transfer System (DTS) for the U.S. Army's new Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH). EFW's DTS will interface with the ARH communications, navigation, aircraft survivability equipment and mission equipment subsystems to automate the mission data input process and record a variety of mission and aircraft information during flight. EFW's DTS is a cutting edge data server, capable of synchronized recording of video and audio, using standard solid-state memory cartridges.

The DTS significantly decreases the pilot's workload by automating many of the tasks that normally require input by hand. For example, using a ground mission planning station, communication, navigation and mission equipment parameters are stored on a removable memory card, and downloaded to the avionics system via the DTS. Aircraft audio and video are recorded and stored as standard audio/video files on the DTS for easy playback and debrief after flight.

Commenting on the award, Raanan Horowitz, executive vice president and general manager of EFW said, "EFW is pleased and honored to be part of the ARH team providing yet another net-centric enabling element for the aircraft. This Data Transfer System solution allows the ARH aircrew to execute their mission safely and effectively with decreased workload. It will also assist the post-flight debrief and battle damage assessment process, while facilitating the maintenance tasks using aircraft subsystem data collected and stored by the DTS."

EFW also supplies the Helmet Display and Tracking System (HDTS) for the ARH, used to provide U.S. Army ARH helicopter pilots with helmet mounted night vision, flight data, and weapons targeting information.
