Ampex Announces First Sale of DSRs48O Solid-State Airborne Server System

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ampex Data Systems Corporation announced their selection to provide the DSRs48O solid-state airborne server system to General Atomics, Reconnaissance Systems Group, San Diego, CA, representing the first sale of this new product. "Higher performance, smaller size, and lighter weight, and all at a lower cost," is the way that Business Development Manager John Hardy described Ampex' s new airborne solid-state server system. "The DSRs48O system is specifically designed to meet our customers' ever-growing data acquisition needs."

The DSRs48O system provides a ruggedized computer/server/recorder packaged in a fully certified MIL-STD-810F package to the TSR community. The system provides three times the performance in a package that is one-quarter the physical size of other airborne servers. Utilizing the latest in hot-swappable solid state disk array technology, the DSRs48O provides up to 2TB of scalable RAID storage and high-performance processing. Designed and developed specifically for users engaged with high data rate, multi-sensor data acquisition and playback operations, the DSRs48O system provides unlimited RAID configurations and processing flexibility. Not limited to airborne applications, the DSRs48O system has also been proposed for use in ground and maritime military applications as well as harsh-environment commercial collection operations.

"The DSRs48O server adds a network centric system to our family of high-performance data acquisition systems," said Lawrence Chiarella, President of Ampex Data Systems Corporation. "The system provides a complete data storage, processing and distribution solution for the TSR community utilizing the latest COTS technology with militarized packaging. We are pleased to report on our selection by General Atomics and that we will be shipping the first of these new systems later this year."

The DSRs48O will be marketed and sold as part of Ampex's TuffServ product line of ruggedized high-performance server systems.
