FORT WORTH, Texas,
Oct. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Airlines and
the Something mAAgic Foundation are partnering with the Make-A-Wish
Foundation(R) to grant the wishes of 28 children on the 12th annual American
Airlines WishFlight to
Orlando, Fla., on
Friday, Oct. 19. Something mAAgic's
annual marquee event, WishFlight, sponsors children with life-threatening
medical conditions and their families for a week-long retreat at the Give Kids
The World Village to experience the excitement of the Walt Disney World(R)
Resort.
As the wish children and their families depart from their home cities
across the country, they begin their vacation with a Bon Voyage event hosted
by American Airlines, American Eagle, and American Airlines Federal Credit
Union employee volunteers, along with other Something mAAgic volunteers.
Airport terminal festivities include decorations, cheering volunteers, clowns
and sweets for all departing passengers. Festive events also await the
flights' arrivals in Orlando as the children begin their wish experiences.
"WishFlight is all about hope and fun for everyone involved. The gift of a
child's 'wish come true' provides immeasurable joy for the entire family,"
said Jennifer Proctor, Executive Director of the Something mAAgic Foundation.
"It is an honor to be a part of an organization that replaces hospital visits
and worries with happy times and memories that the whole family can enjoy."
The 28 wish children are the most ever to take part in WishFlight, which
began in 1996 as a grassroots campaign among American Airlines employees to
support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
During the week-long stay at Give Kids The World Village, each family
stays in their own villa, and enjoy meals onsite at the Gingerbread House
restaurant. The one-of-a-kind magical Village includes the Castle of
Miracles, complete with a wheelchair-friendly carousel, the interactive
Amberville Train Station, and an Ice Cream Palace that serves all the ice
cream a child can eat.
As part of Something mAAgic's commitment to enhancing the wishes of the
children, last year Something mAAgic presented Give Kids The World Village
with a $20,000 donation, the first installment of a three-year pledge to build
a new villa to house additional families during their stay. The groundbreaking
of the new villa will take place on Saturday, Oct. 20. American Airlines has
supported the Village for more than 10 years, and even built the wheelchair
accessible, interactive waterpark, The Park of Dreams. The new villa, which
will open in 2008, is the next step in the Something mAAgic and American
Airlines partnership to support Give Kids The World.
