FORT WORTH, Texas,
July 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Since 2004, American Airlines
Federal Credit Union (AA Credit Union) has supported its young member-owners
with scholarship award opportunities for higher education. This year, the AA
Credit Union is pleased to announce an increase in the number of total
scholarship awards from five to eight. Seven
$1,500 scholarships were awarded
to high school seniors and one
$1,500 scholarship was awarded to a current
college student.
The 2008 AA Credit Union Scholarship winners were chosen from 206
applicants from young member-owners across the country. Two selection
committees comprised of various AA Credit Union staff members reviewed
applications consisting of essays and listings of academic and extracurricular
achievements.
"Each year, our selection process becomes more difficult and extremely
competitive, and we applaud all of our applicants for their outstanding
achievements during their high school and college careers," said Lori Hall, AA
Credit Union's Senior Vice President - Marketing and Member Services. "We are
thrilled to be able to contribute to the education of such well-deserving
leaders of tomorrow."
AA Credit Union is proud to announce the following winners of 2008 AA
Credit Union Scholarships:
High school recipients:
-- Zachary Chinea, age 18, St. Louis, Mo. Zachary will attend Southeast
Missouri State University, where he plans on studying chemistry.
-- Kayla Evans, age 17, Auburn, Wash. Kayla will attend the University of
Washington in Seattle, majoring in Health Sciences.
-- Tyler Franklin, age 18, Colleyville, Texas. Tyler will attend the
University of Texas in Austin and has been accepted into the Engineering
Honors Program at the Cockrell School of Engineering.
-- Peter Halibozek, age 17, Kensington, Conn. Peter will attend Dartmouth
College, and plans to pursue a career in medicine.
-- Jordan Harris, age 18, North Richland Hills, Texas. Jordan will attend
the University of Michigan, majoring in Sociology or Third World Studies.
-- David Bradley Jones, age 18, Tulsa, Okla. David will attend the
University of Oklahoma, majoring in Chemical Engineering.
-- Evan McClure, age 17, Brentwood, Tenn. Evan will attend Vanderbilt
University, majoring in Medicine.
College recipient:
-- Michael Rieger, age 20, Islip Terrace, N.Y. Michael is a student at
Hofstra University majoring in Video/Television with a minor in English.
