Fraport Traffic Figures - April 2008

FRANKFURT, Germany, May 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Frankfurt Airport (FRA) achieved new April records in nearly all traffic categories: 4,466,747 passengers served in the reporting month represent a 2.2 percent year-on-year increase as well as a 1.8 percent rise over the previous record-April in 2006. FRA's airfreight tonnage climbed by 5.1 percent over April 2007 to 180,461 metric tons -- and by 2.3 percent versus the April 2006 reference record. Despite FRA's acute capacity constraints, aircraft movements also grew by 1.87 percent to 40,847 takeoffs and landings compared to April 2007 -- exceeding even the peak figure of April 2005 by 0.5 percent. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) hit 2,378,862 metric tons in the reporting month, 3.6 percent more than in April 2007 and 1.6 percent more than in the previously best April 2005 reference month. Even airmail tonnage rose by two percent year-on-year to 7,344 metric tons.

From January to April 2008, more than 16.7 million passengers used Germany's "Gateway to the World", 3.2 percent more than in the comparable period last year. Airfreight throughput at FRA reached almost 694,000 metric tons, even 4.6 percent higher than in the first four months of 2007. Only airmail activity declined by 0.3 percent from the previous year's level to just under 30,200 metric tons. The number of aircraft movements remained nearly unchanged at well over 157,000 takeoffs and landings. In contrast, accumulated MTOWs hit 9.1 million metric tons, a 2.2 percent rise compared to the January-to-April 2007 period. The above-average increase in MTOWs in comparison to the number of aircraft movements demonstrates the rising share of widebody aircraft and FRA.

The Fraport Group's majority-owned airports (Frankfurt, Frankfurt-Hahn, Antalya, Lima, Burgas and Varna) served a total of 5.95 million passengers in April 2007, 2.2 percent more than in the same month last year. From January to April 2007, about 22 million or 3.8 percent more passengers used these six airports of the Fraport Group. Cargo tonnage (airfreight and airmail) rose by 7.3 percent both in April 2007 as well as in the first four months of the year to about 214,000 and 830,000 metric tons, respectively.
