Sterling Airlines Orders 8 Boeing 737NG Blended Winglet Systems Plus 8 Options

SEATTLE, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Airlines took delivery of 8 Blended Winglet Systems -- seven 737-700 and one 737-800 system -- on June 30th, 2007. A repeat customer, the Copenhagen-based carrier has operated 4 Blended Winglet Equipped 737-800s for several years and has now made the decision to go 100% Blended Winglets. If all options are exercised, as planned, Sterling's fleet of 20 Performance Enhanced 737NGs will save over 2.6 million gallons (9 million liters) of fuel annually.

"We're pleased to be able to offer our customers a more environmentally friendly plane journey. We share our passengers' concerns about CO2 emissions. That's why we've chosen to make a milestone commitment to exploiting the technological capabilities that already exist, in order to reduce the pollution from our planes," says CEO Almar Orn Hilmarsson from Sterling Airlines.

Founded in 1962, the inspiration for the carrier's name came from the founder's mother who used to give sterling silver gifts because, for her, it was the very symbol of quality. The same attitudes toward quality, long-term value and being a good neighbor characterize the special Sterling spirit today. Investing in Blended Winglets -- fleet wide -- offers dramatic and long-term environmental benefits with reduced fuel consumption, reduced engine emissions and reduced noise on takeoff and landing.

AirCastle Advisors owns the 7 Sterling 737-700s to be upgraded with patented* Blended Winglets while ILFC is lessor of Sterling's latest Blended Winglet Equipped 737-800. With utilization rates of more than 3500 hours per year, and a long-haul scheduled and charter route structure to over 40 destinations within Europe, Sterling is well positioned to gain maximum advantage from it's Blended Winglet assets.

"Sterling is a particularly progressive and eco-conscious airline and we're very pleased that they've made the decision to equip the remainder of their fleet with Blended Winglet Technology," says Aviation Partners Boeing CEO John Reimers. "As the first operator of Blended Winglets in Scandinavia, and the largest low-cost airline in the region today, this order is another important endorsement of our Visible Technology."

Aviation Partners Blended Winglets are now in service on over 1750 commercial aircraft with more than 40 airlines.
