Ed Zipser Bio

Ed ZipserProfessor, Dept. of Meteorology, University of Utah

Ed Zipser is a professor in the Dept. of Meteorology, at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. From 1990-1999, he was a professor in the Dept. of Meteorology, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. From 1990-1998, he was a scientific visitor, Mesoscale and Microscale Division, National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Boulder, Colorado; from 1976-1990, he was a senior scientist at NCAR.

Dr. Edward Zipser has been involved with the TRMM project since its early planning stages in 1987, and served as the team leader for its “ground validation” field campaigns. A well-recognized leader in the field, with numerous awards based on his meteorological and space research efforts, Zipser has spent 38 years studying significant weather events. At the University of Utah, he has made many discoveries about the differences in geographical weather patterns using data from the TRMM satellite.

Dr. Zipser holds an M.S. and a Ph.D, both in Meteorology, from Florida State  University, and a B.S.E. in Aeronautical Engineering from Princeton University.
