Prince William Completes Tour as SAR Pilot
The UK’s Prince William, otherwise known as Flight Lt. William Wales, Royal Air Force, has completed his tour of duty as a search and rescue pilot with C Flight, 22 Squadron. His tour ended on September 10 with no incidents.
Flying Westland Sea King HAR3 helicopters, the Prince joined 22 Squadron on Sept. 21, 2010 at RAF Valley after completing his operational conversion course. He became an aircraft captain on May 30, 2012.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford, the first helicopter pilot to appointed Chief of the Air Staff, said the prince’s “airmanship, often in the most demanding of conditions, has contributed directly to saving lives in the mountains of North Wales and from the ravages of the Irish Sea. He has earned the respect of all who have worked with him as a highly professional and competent pilot.”
