Indian Army, Eurocopter Close to Deal

The Indian Army is close to finalizing a deal worth more than $600 million to buy 197 AS550C3 Fennecs from Eurocopter, according to the Indian Defense Ministry. It will be used primarily for surveillance, casualty evacuation and medium transport by the army. Flight tests have been conducted in hot and dry environments over the past year. The Fennecs were chosen over Bell 407s and can be equipped with axial weapons.  Eurocopter is expected to deliver 60 helicopters immediately.
