Afghanistan’s defense ministry is working on a five-year development plan for the country’s air force, according to an Afghanistan news report.
The Khaama Press news agency quoted Afghanistan’s acting defense minister, Masoom Stanekzai, as telling the lower house of the country’s parliament Jan. 9 that the plan would address the service’s process for acquiring equipment and training pilots, mechanics and engineers.
Stanekzai reportedly also told legislators that India would deliver a fourth and final Mil Mi-25 to the air force within three weeks. The transport/gunship is being donated under a deal struck in November during a visit by senior Afghanistan defense officials to New Delhi. The first three aircraft were delivered last month.
India is retiring its obsolescent Mi-25s, with plans to replace them with Boeing
