Monocopter Uses Rotor Technology
University of Maryland students in the Clark School of Engineering have come up with what is being touted as the world’s smallest rotorcraft—a micro unmanned device that resembles a seed from a maple tree. The device can hover and conduct surveillance missions in outdoor environments. Researchers have been trying to take advantage of the maple tree seed’s unique airborne qualities since the 1950s, but efforts have failed until recently because wind has blown the micro-UAVs off course.
