E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Approved for Full Rate Production
The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, Northrop Grumman's tactical early warning aircraft, has been approved for full-rate production by the Office of the Secretary of Defense afer completing initial operational testing.
The aircraft completed a 10-month initial operational test and evaluation program conducted by the U.S. Navy.
Northrop Grumman describes the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye as featuring a "two generation leap" in radar sensor capability.
"With the Navy's E-2D program of record at 75 aircraft, this decision by OSD enables the production of the remaining 55 aircraft over the next 10 years and provides the opportunity for a cost-effective, multi-year procurement," said Bart LaGrone, vice president, E-2/C-2 programs, Northrop Grumman.
The first E-2D deployment is scheduled for 2015. More
