DoD Awards $2 Billion to Boeing for C-17 Sustainment
The U.S. Department of Defense awarded Boeing $2 billion to continue providing logistics support for its fleet of C-17 transport aircraft through 2017.
Boeing will continue to provide forecasting, purchasing and material management under the C-17 Globemaster III Integrated Sustainment Program (GISP) for the length of the contract which covers a global fleet of C-17 aircraft.
The GISP is a Performance-Based Logistics program, which helps lower costs for managing the fleet through economies of scale, according to Boeing.
"This contract award and the recognition from the secretary of defense are testaments to the long-standing partnership between the U.S. Air Force and Boeing," said Gus Urzua, vice president and GISP program manager at Boeing.
