Boeing Begins KC-46 Refueling Boom Production
Boeing has begun production of the first refueling boom for its KC-46A aerial refueling tanker at the company's new Seattle facility.
Boeing's KC-46A will replace the U.S. Air Force’s fleet of KC-135 tankers.
"It's a big day for the KC-46 Tanker Program and the U.S. Air Force," said Maj. Gen. John Thompson, executive officer of the U.S. Air Force Tanker program. "Boeing continues to make good progress toward delivering the KC-46 Tanker on schedule."
Boeing said the first refueling boom will enter testing in 2013, following the next major KC-46 contract milestone; the Critical Design Review scheduled for the summer 2013.
