BAE Contracts For F-35 Secure Operating System

BAE Systems said Jan. 18 that it signed a $3.8 million contract to continue supplying the secure operating system that runs mission-planning software in the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II.

The BAE operating system collects data at different security levels and is used by the aircraft’s software to develop the mission plan, including intelligence, weather, communications and navigation.

When the aircraft has returned to base, the operating system “parses the data according to its security classification,” BAE said. The process, known as a cross domain transfer, occurs within seconds.
