600 More Jobs Cut on Presidential Helicopter

Lockheed Martin has announced plans to eliminate around 600 additional jobs in relation to the cancelled contract to design and produce the next U.S. Presidential helicopter. The reductions will take place at the company’s plant in Owego, N.Y., where the aircraft were being built with AgustaWestland, a partner in the VH-71 program. The total number of employees at Owego is expected to shrink to 3,000 by the end of 2009, a 25 percent reduction from the 4,000 workers employed there in Jan. 2009, according to a Lockheed Martin.
