In a statement following the announcement that parent company AMR will close maintenance bases in Kansas City, Detroit, Minneapolis and San Jose, John M. Conley said that the “ongoing and unrelenting pressure created by economic uncertainty, instability, unpredictable revenue stream and overcapacity have contributed to an overall industry contraction.” In addition, “frequent mismanagement” at U.S. airlines have contributed to the overall situation, he added.
