Popular Mechanics Awards Sikorsky X2

Sikorsky’s X2 Technology demonstrator has received a 2009 Breakthrough Innovator Award from Popular Mechanics. Based at the manufacturer’s Development Flight Center in Florida, the X2 program is seeking to achieve a cruise speed of 250 knots, faster than typical average speeds of 160–170 knots, according to Jim Kagdis, program manager for Sikorsky Advanced Programs. Through early October, the demonstrator has flown at speeds up to 106 knots in test flights. Popular Mechanics hosted an awards ceremony on October 8 in New York City.
