Panasonic to Develop System for Emirates

Panasonic Avionics Corp., of Lake Forest, Calif., is creating a new in-flight entertainment system for 37 Emirates aircraft, the company said. The new system is a X Series hybrid system designed to bring new capabilities to its K Series System 2000e system. The new System 2000-eX Hybrid solution provides Emirates’ A330-200 and A340-300s, equipped with Panasonic’s System 2000e product, a head-end server and distribution solution comprised of eX2 components. This extends the service life of these configurations while providing Emirates a digital content capability aligned with the rest of their Panasonic IFEC product, Panasonic said. It replaces the S2000e analog head-end (tape) with digital storage and reproduction, providing audio-video on demand (AVOD) capabilities in premium classes allowing for the removal of in-seat video cassette players.
Panasonic Avionics will be among the participants in a Dec. 2 Avionics Magazine Webinar on in-flight entertainment. For more information, and to register, click here.
