The airline said the facility will perform daily and weekly maintenance checks, scheduled engineering services and fault repairs for its daily Boeing 777s flying to Chicago from the UAE.
Etihad’s base will also perform line maintenance services for airBerlin’s Airbus A330-operated Chicago flights, as a result of a partnership with the German carrier.
“As partners, it makes operational and commercial sense to work together on issues such as common maintenance, and we expect the synergies and efficiencies we achieve through this specific integration to deliver tangible benefits for both our businesses,” said James Hogan, president and CEO of Etihad Airways.
The new Chicago maintenance operation will be staffed with Abu Dhabi-trained line maintenance aircraft engineers, with additional support from Chicago-based aircraft maintenance provider Flightcheck LLC. More
