Embraer Selects Pratt & Whitney Engines for E-Jets

Embraer selected Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower Geared Turbofan engines to power its second generation of E-Jets, which are scheduled to enter into service in 2018.

The engines, the PW1700G and PW1900G, currently power the Airbus A320neo and Bombardier’s CSeries jets. The geared turbofan engine uses an advanced gear system that allows the engine fan to operate at a different speed from the low-pressure compressor and turbine, which can provide up to 50 percent aircraft noise reduction, Pratt & Whitney said.

Embraer said it selected Pratt & Whitney’s to help provide more fuel efficiency on the aircraft.

“Pratt & Whitney’s Pure Power engines allow us to offer our customers the very best technology and lowest operating costs,” said Frederico Fleury Curado, CEO of Embraer. More
