Automated Weather to Iraq

All Weather, Inc. (AWI) is working with KUANTA to increase the safety for U.S. military personnel who operate near the Kirkuk, Iraq airport.  Safety is being enhanced by providing anAutomated Weather Observing System (AWOS). The AWOS III, developed by AWI, is an unmanned system that provides up-to-the-minute weather data to airport personnel, pilots, and meteorological offices in the Kirkuk region. The AWOS will increase safety and situational awareness for all users of the Kirkuk airport. Included in AWI’s AWOS are sensors for measuring wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, rainfall, barometric pressure, visibility, cloud height, present weather, and runway visual range.   The design of the Kirkuk AWOS is consistent with the requirements of CAT II type approaches.
