American Drops Airbus A350-800s for -900s

American Airlines has opted for the 315-seat A350-900 over the 276-seater -800 Airbus aircraft it had previously chosen. The order, changed Friday, Dec. 27, originally called for 18 A350-800 and only four A350-900, according to Airbus’ orders and deliveries database; now all 22 aircraft will be -900s.

Following American’s parent AMR and US Airways merger to form American Airlines Group on Dec. 9, Airbus now has 61 remaining orders for A350-800.
The order, originally made November 2009, has deliveries due for 2017, a deferral from the original 2015 date.
