[Aviation Today January 27, 2014] The India Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved the Airbus A380 to begin operating in India.

Ajit Singh, India's minister for civil aviation, consulted with the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Air India Ltd. and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to make the decision to lift the ban on A380 flights in the country. Currently a total of four airports, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru have the required infrastructure for operations of A380s.
Larger aircraft such as the double-story A380 allow for higher load factors to make the most efficient use of limited airport slots in India. Airbus calls India "one of the world's fastest growing aviation markets."

Lufthansa, Emirates and Singapore Airlines are among the carriers that have shown interest in operating the A380 in India.
