South Africa Gets FMS Moving Maps

Flight Management Systems (FMS) of Calgary says Carl Zeiss Optronics (PTY) has received five FMS Moving Map integration kits for the South African Police Service (SAPS) BO-105 helicopters and Pilatus PC-6 fixed-wing aircraft, bringing the total number of FMS Moving Map systems flying with the SAPS, to eleven. After extensive testing of the hardware, engineers at Carl Zeiss Optronics determined that the system would meet or exceed the SAPS requirements of accuracy, simplicity, and ruggedness. The moving map can be upgraded to fully FLIR coupled moving map system in the future and that GIS technicians could update the maps as required, saving money, as well as ensuring security. FMS has been a leader in using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data for their systems, recognizing the advantage that GIS brings to modern law enforcement.
