HGI Capital Group, an aircraft leasing firm based in Barcelona, placed a firm $482 million order for 10 ATR 72-600 regional turboprop aircraft on Wednesday at the 2013 Paris Air Show.
The order includes options for an additional 10 aircraft. HGI acquired the 72-600s for Brazilian carrier Passaredo Airlines. The Spanish leasing firm also became a shareholder in the airline following approval of Brazil's National Agency for Civil Aviation (ANAC).
Passaredo CEO Luiz Felicio said the new aircraft will be used to expand the airline's regional routes in the Latin American market.
Over the past five years, the fleet of ATR aircraft operated within the Latin American region has doubled to over 160, according to ATR CEO Filippo Bagnato.
