Blackhawk Modifications on Sunday announced completion and delivery of the first Cessna Caravan 208A XP42A upgrade, as it delivered the single-engine turboprop to Skydive Hawaii.
The XP42A upgrade replaced the 208A's 675-shaft-horsepower (shp) Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-114A engine with a PT6A-42A engine, boosting its power to 850 shp. Skydive Hawaii plans on using the 14-passenger upgraded Caravan for high-altitude, low-opening (HALO) jump flights. Blackhawk also includes a new Hartzell propeller, autoclave-cured carbon-fiber composite cowling and an inlet duct as part of the XP42A upgrade.
“With the XP42A modification, our 208A is the fastest civilian skydiving aircraft in Hawaii,” said Skydive Hawaii’s founder and president, Frank Hinshaw.
Blackhawk is displaying a 208A with the upgrade package at EAA's Airventure 2013 air show this week in Oshkosh, Wisc.
