New Hudson Rules Go Into Effect Today

FAA’s changes to the airspace over the Hudson and East rivers surrounding New York City take effect today. The modifications, which separate helicopters and sightseeing aircraft from airplanes that are flying over the area, come two months after the midair collision involving a helicopter and small aircraft over the Hudson. In addition to the airspace zone split, FAA is requiring several restrictions, including speed limits and self-announcing aircraft type, position and altitude along charted reporting points.
