[Avionics Today 09-08-14] Transaero Airlines has announced customer usage of its In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) system from the first six months of 2014. In the first half of the year, passengers sent more than 1.5 million in-flight texts and made 24,500 phone calls. During the same period, the Wi-Fi connection amassed 1,900 GB in traffic across the 31 aircraft that have satellite communications equipment installed.

The aircraft equipped with IFC include nine Boeing 747-400s, five Boeing 777-300s, 11 Boeing 737-800s, and four 737-700s, which are operated on both domestic and international routes. The IFC systems in these aircraft operate via Ku-band based on satellite technologies provided by Panasonic Avionics’ Global Communication Suite (on Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 long-haul aircraft) and Row44 (on Boeing 737-700/800) systems.
