Mike Melum is the co-inventor of the ADS-B Link Augmentation System (ALAS). Melum has more than 32 years’ experience with the FAA, which includes 12 years’ experience in major system acquisition program management. He was the manager of the FAA’s first satellite network acquisition program (ANICS) and one of the leading aviation communications experts in the United States.
His depth of experience includes responsibility for all aspects of the deployment of Air Traffic Control communication systems in Alaska during 1996 – 2006, including WAAS reference facilities. He was instrumental in the concept phase of the Alaskan Capstone Program. He has also performed actual hands-on engineering, installation and maintenance of dozens of FAA Air Traffic Control Communications, Navigation and Surveillance subsystems.
