Captain Ed Folsom is an acknowledged expert in the arena of aviation safety and security. As manager of safety and security systems at United Airlines, Ed represents flight operations as part of a team implementing safety management systems throughout the airline.

Ed has been instrumental in developing and implementing various security systems at United and nationally as a security representative for the Airline Pilots Association. As Co-Chairman of RTCA Special Committee 221, Ed is leading industry stakeholders in developing federal standards for airplane secondary barrier systems. Captain Folsom also has been instrumental in the development of the Federal Flight Deck Officer program nationally and at United Airlines.

Ed is a distinguished military graduate of the USAF Academy, class of 1980, eventually retiring as a Lt. Col. after 22 years of active duty and reserve service. Military experience includes forward air control, close air support and combat search and rescue. Ed has flown the OV-10, A-10, MH-60G, as well as the B727, 737, 757, 767, 747, and Airbus 320/319. Ed is currently a Captain on the B757/767, based in Los Angeles.
