Wind River Selected for Navy UAV

Wind River, Alameda, Calif., was selected by Northrop Grumman to provide its VxWorks 653 device software platform for the carrier-borne X-47B Navy Unmanned Aerial Combat System, the companies announced Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wind River said the platform will enable developers to create, deploy and maintain Integrated Modular Avionics applications more reliably. In August 2007, Northrop Grumman was awarded the six-year, $635.8 million contract for the aircraft. At the time of the contract, the company said the first air vehicle was set to fly in late 2009, with the first at-sea carrier landings planned for 2011 and program completion by 2013. The X-47B air vehicles are being assembled in Palmdale, Calif., by a team that includes Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, GKN Aerospace, GE Aviation, Honeywell, Eaton Aerospace, Moog Inc., Wind River, Goodrich, Parker Aerospace, Dell, Hamilton Sundstrand and Rockwell Collins.
