Thales to Supply US ILS420s

Thales has received an order from the FAA to supply five Instrument Landing Systems model 420 (ILS420s) for deployment throughout the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS).

According to Thales, this is the first procurement by the FAA as part of a five-year contract. Instrument landing systems are designed to provide precise vertical and horizontal navigation guidance to pilots for approach and landing.

The FAA is looking to update legacy ILS technologies with more advanced systems such as Thales' ILS420 as it continues to modernize its air traffic system with NextGen.

“As the FAA transitions to NextGen, Thales will continue to help support and modernize the FAA’s inventory of navigational aids," said Tony Lo Brutto, vice president, Thales ATM U.S.
