Rosen, Elliot Partner on IFE System

Rosen Aviation, Eugene, Ore., is partnering with Elliott Aviation to provide a noise-canceling system combined with an in-flight entertainment (IFE) system for King Air 200, 300 and 350 series aircraft. Elliott Aviation’s Sound Management System (SMS) incorporates UltraQuiet Active Noise Control (ANC), which continually samples interior sound with microphones, sending information to a digital processor. The processor generates mirror image sound waves, which are broadcast through strategically placed loudspeakers, countering the unwanted noise. The result is a quieter interior experience for passengers, the companies said. “In a turboprop-powered aircraft, most of the noise is created by propeller blades projecting a shockwave against the side of the fuselage,” said Mark Wilken, Elliott’s Director of Avionics Sales & Product Development. “The SMS noise-canceling technology Elliott uses is very similar to the same noise-canceling principles utilized by Bose in their headphones.” The companies said the system adds 79 pounds to the aircraft and takes about two weeks for installation. In combination with the SMS, Elliot is offering Rosen Aviation’s RosenView VX cabin entertainment system with 10.4-inch LCD display. This system provides cabin passengers with moving map, DVD player and auxiliary input device for personal hand-held devices.
