Rockwell Collins to Supply Avionics to Thomas Cook Group

Thomas Cook Group has selected Rockwell Collins’ radio sensors and avionics, including MultiScan Threat Detection System and GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), for its new Airbus A320 and A321 fleet.

“Thomas Cook’s latest selection of our advanced systems like MultiScan and MMR demonstrates the trust present between both companies, and the dedication Thomas Cook has to providing its customers with a safe, reliable flight experience,” said Claude Alber, vice president and managing director of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EuMEA) for Rockwell Collins.

“Airlines need to take crucial avionic equipment decisions to be compliant with the new CNS standards and at the same time enhance their flight operation procedures to further improve the operational efficiency,” said Bernd Bechtel, executive vice president of Group Fleet Management for Thomas Cook Group plc.

Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan Threat Detection System is a fully automatic airborne weather radar system. MultiScan combines the latest weather science with advanced engineering concepts to identify and analyze thunderstorm cells, and display the actual weather threat. The end result is reduced pilot workload, enhanced safety, and greater passenger comfort due to minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters.

In addition to its avionics selection, Thomas Cook Group also selected Rockwell Collins’ PAVES 3 overhead and wireless in-flight entertainment for its new Airbus fleet, which was announced earlier this year. New aircraft deliveries are expected in 2013.
