RDD to Upgrade Avionics, Structure for Lancair IV-P

Juliet Van Wagenen

[Avionics Today 12-15-2015] RDD Enterprises, an experimental aircraft research, design and development firm, has announced a major upgrade for Lancair IV and IV-P airframes. The conversion, carrying the LX7 moniker, replaces the original wings, aft fuselage and tail with new components using lighter and stronger materials as well as modern airfoils with improved slow flight and stall characteristics. RDD will also upgrade the LX7 with new electrical systems and components as well as a three-screen Integrated Flight Deck (IFD).

“We have cleared many of the design hurdles using the latest in computer aided design software,” said Eric Schmidlin, RDD project manager. “Our goal is to provide an outstanding passenger comfort level with engaging flight response for the pilot.” RDD expects to complete the final assembly of the first aircraft in Spring 2016.
